Summertime Reading Days at Laurus College

Our Student Services Department recently hosted our first annual Summertime Reading Day at the Santa Maria and Oxnard locations during the month of June. A group of Laurus College students, all members of the Reading Tutor program, assisted children between the ages of 3 to 12 with the reading of books such as Curious George Goes Camping and A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee, as well as the creation of multiple arts and crafts featured in the pictures below.

Almost all of the children who participated in the Summertime Reading Day had never been camping before, which made this a great experience by exposing them to a new environment filled with fun outdoor style activities.

There were 11 children from the CALM program who participated in the Santa Maria reading day which was held on June 21st.

For the Oxnard reading day which was held on June 29th, we had 15 children participate from the local Boys and Girls Club.

All of the children were able to create a variety of outdoor art projects which included decorating an outline of their name with leaves, twigs, and branches, making an imprint of a leaf using crayons, and coloring camping themed pictures. Each child also received a copy of Curious George Goes Camping to take home with them.

We were very honored to have all of those who helped out and participated in the Summertime Reading Day. If you are a current Laurus College student and would like to help out with future events like this, please send an email to studentservices@tinab22.sg-host.com.
