Laurus College Blog – Printober: 3D Printing Contest”

Printober: 3D Printing Contest

by the 3D Animation Department at Laurus College

Are you ready for another exciting contest at Laurus College? This month we’ll be hosting the 1st Annual Printober: 3D Printing Contest, which is open to all Laurus College Students and recent Graduates. We are looking for original models or sculpts of a Jack-o-Lantern. All submissions are due by Monday, October 26, at 4:00 pm. Winners shall receive a 3D printout of their own model!

Today, it’s becoming much easier to develop and printout 3D models. Our 3D Animation Department recently purchased a 3D Printer to help students bring their digital models to life. The process for creating these models is very unique. After one of our students has created a 3D digital model within the Maya software program, the printer then uses advanced technology to slice the model into multiple layers. The printer will use a material, such as resin or plastic, to create these physical layers and lay them accordingly to the specifications of the digital model. Lastly, these layers become solidified by a small light or laser within the machine, which creates the final 3D printout.

Remember to enter the Printober: 3D Printing Contest if you would like to have an original 3D printout of your own!
